Our Hike to Silver Lake

There is so much beauty surrounding us in Quincy! With the Buttes in the background and hiking trails all around, we are the perfect hot spot for the outdoor enthusiast.

Snag Lake, Snake Lake, Bucks Lake, Gold Lake and our favorite, Silver Lake, are all within 20 miles of Pioneer RV Park.  Actually, there are over 100 lakes in Plumas County that are all close by! All of these lakes offer great fishing, swimming and hiking to take advantage of some of the most glorious views of the Sierras.

Last weekend, we had some friends from out of town visit and made the 20 minute drive to Silver Lake in the Plumas National Forest. Not only was the weather perfect (it warmed to about 72 degrees!) but the fall colors were prominently displayed at every turn.

The hike from Silver Lake to Gold Lake is a short and easy one, which gives plenty of opportunities to snap pictures along the way. It is a three mile hike round trip and has many places to stop for a snack or good conversation.

Our only warning about hiking near Quincy is to be mindful of the high altitude change. The top elevation of this hike is 6,100 feet and other trails reach near 7,000 feet in the area! It is common to have trouble getting acclimated to the altitude change so make sure to prepare yourself for such alterations. If you are not used to hiking in the mountains, the rewarding journey can be arduous but worthwhile.

If you’d like any recommendations about hiking trails, fishing holes and the best places to see snow-capped mountains, feel free to ask us! This isn’t our first rodeo so we’d be happy to help.
